4 Top Ways To Evaluate Your Homeschoolers

One of the biggest questions new home schooling families have is; How will I evaluate my child's progress, how will I know if my child is learning?

The good news is getting evaluated is easy and there are different methods to do it, you can choose the method that best fits your families learning style.

#1) Hire a local certified teacher to come over and evaluate your child.
Local certified teachers are available to come over and evaluate your kids. The teacher sits down with them in sort of a little interview and evaluates their progress. The teacher then sign off on an evaluation report, and since they're a certified teacher that is an official document.

Teachers are happy for the extra work and you can negotiate the fee. Just call your local school and start asking who is interested.

#2) Have your child take a standardized test.
Even if you homeschool you can put your taxes to good use by taking advantage of your school districts standardized testing. In Florida they have the Fcat in Massachusetts they have the Mcat. Contact your local school board to see what dates they have the testing and to sign up your kids.

If you have high school aged kids, they can take the ACT or SAT as well.

#3) Give a presentation.
Have your kids prepare a presentation on a particular topic and record the presentation. The presentation could be as simple as a speech with a poster board visual aid, or as complex as a little movie with graphics.

You can get an inexpensive Flip Video Camera to record the presentation. Nothing quiets the concerns of in-laws faster than watching your 9 year old give a presentation on "Modern International Trade's Impact on Indigenous Cultures"

#4) Keep a scrapbook for each kid's school year.
The scrapbook can include pictures, work samples, reading lists, awards, field trip notes, project results, and reflections & ideas.

All this material goes into a scrapbook and not only turns into a wealth of happy memories, it is your homeschool portfolio that colleges may want to see along with your transcript.

Getting evaluated is easy and nothing to fret over. If you have any questions you can contact us anytime.
